Our reporter who is visiting Borno state this week has visited several villages in Gwoza local government and some other flash points, but has only seen scores of Nigerian soldiers carrying out routine operations.
He has so far been to Attagara, Aganjara, Agamanchiya, Ngoshe and Angurva communities, as well as some areas on the border with Cameroon.
“There is no presence of any foreign military troops carrying out operations in those areas, contrary to expectations and the exaggerations in the media after the girls were forcefully abducted,” he said.
“The majority of the villages are abandoned and the homes burnt to ashes. We did not see anything like foreign troops there, but a senior military officer who provided security for us confirmed that at the Cameroon side of its border with Nigeria there are indeed pockets of foreign soldiers working with Camerounian military but there is nothing like foreign troops in Borno State working for the recovery of the abducted girls.”
It would be recalled that the Nigerian Army publicly stated recently that it knows where the girls are. Government officials have continued to reassure the public that they will soon be released.
