A few hours after President Goodluck Jonathan’s promise of
“immediate action” on Sunday in deploying adequate troops to Southern
Kaduna area of Kaduna state, the suspected herdsmen carried out a series
of attacks in the night in one of the villages.
The armed men attacked the Ningon village. Witnesses say the men watching over the village saw how they killed a lady that was found in the village, and how they burnt down over 50 houses, before leaving when they sighted Nigerian army troops advancing.
The armed herdsmen, according to locals, numbered in the dozens, and also have women among them in their killing squad.
One of the locals, who spoke through an interpreter said, “We saw them in (the) dozens while we were hiding in the forest, they killed a lady that has psychiatric problems, and they had burnt down over 50 houses, and (once) sighting the arriving soldiers they fled.”
