World Cup - Rodriguez genius fires Colombia past toothless Uruguay

World Cup - Rodriguez genius fires Colombia past toothless Uruguay
.
James Rodriguez of Colombia (R) scores the 1-0 during the FIFA World Cup 2014 round of 16 match between Colombia and Uruguay at the Estadio do Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil,
Colombia are through to face Brazil in the quarter-finals of the World Cup thanks to brace from James Rodriguez, the first a goal of the tournament contender.
With the sides locked at 0-0 and Uruguay defending deep in numbers, Rodriguez chested down the ball with his back to goal and unleashed a fantastic volley that crashed in via the bar.
If the first was a stunning solo effort, the second was a well-worked team goal. A great cross from Pablo Armero picked out the excellent Juan Cuadrado on the far post and he headed back across for Rodriguez to tap home.

Missing the suspended Luis Suarez, Uruguay offered little going forward themselves, David Ospina doing well to deny Alvaro Pereira late on.
Rodriguez’s brace means he is now the tournament’s leading scorer with five goals but much more importantly is the fact that he has guided Colombia to their first ever World Cup quarter final.
Colombia will face Brazil in Fortaleza on July 4. in the quarter-finals.
