Adamawa Governor Buys N400m Vehicles, Sacks DG For Questioning Purchase

The decision of the Adamawa state governor, Bala Ngilari to buy two Lexus SUVs for N180million, about $900,000 and two Hilux pick up vans at N400million have triggered outrage from members of the state House of Assembly.
On Wednesday, the members passed a resolution calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to probe the purchases.
The House, now split into factions, further called on the state government to re-instate the sacked Director General of the state Public Procurement Bureau, Malam Bello Umar, who it said was sacked by the executive for querying the purchase and for not following due process.
At its plenary presided over by the Speaker, Ahmadu Fintiri, the House also recommended a national honour for Umar for querying the purchase and other executive excesses that cost his sack, Pm News reports.

Malala’s Attackers Sentenced To Life Imprisonment

A court in Pakistan today has sentenced 10 men to life imprisonment for attempting to kill Nobel-prize winning teenage activist Malala Yousafzai in 2012, though the chief suspect remains at large.
Pakistani Taliban militants boarded the teenager's school bus and shot her in the head in October 2012 for her outspoken views on girls' education, in an attack that also wounded two of her friends and shocked the world.
Malala, now 17, survived and in October last year became the youngest winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in history for her courageous and determined fight for all children to have the right to go to school.

DSS operatives attack Buhari’s ex-campaign coordinator


The Anambra State Coordinator of the Muhammadu Buhari Presidential Campaign Organisation in the 2007 presidential elections, Chief Ifeanyichukwu Nwokoye, was on Monday brutalised by men of the Department of State Service.The DSS operatives reportedly beat Nwokoye to the extent that his sight had been affected.Nwokoye alleged that he was brutalised because he refused to release information about 22 expatriate medical doctors invited by the Anambra State government for free medical mission in the state.
As of the time of filing this report on Wednesday, Nwokoye was receiving treatment at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka.

Chibok Girls NOT Among 293 Girls, Women Rescued

After the defence headquarters yesterday said Nigerian troops yesterday rescued over 200 girls and 93 women from Sambisa forest, a lot of Nigerians had high hopes that after screening and profiling the girls, some of them will turn out to be part of the Chibok girls who have been missing since last year April. However, the spokesperson for the army, Sani Usman, a colonel, has told Reuters news agency the rescued girls were not, from Chibok. They are not the Chibok girls, he said.

Pictured above, guys is a show of raw strength and love by an unidentified strong mother.

According to the midwife centre that published the pics online, she had planned a peaceful water birth but early in her pregnancy, noticed a suspicious breast lump.

After separate evaluations and reports saying it was "probably benign", she consulted a breast specialist. The lumps were biopsied and mom was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer around 20 weeks pregnant. She had a left breast mastectomy a few days later and immediately started chemo while pregnant with her miracle baby.

Xenophobia:FG reportedly suspends Permenent Sec Ministry of Foreign affairs

The Federal Government has reportedly suspended the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Danjuma Sheni, over the unauthorized recall of the Nigerian Ambassador to South Africa.

A highly placed government official in the Presidency told Vanguard that the president ordered the suspension of the Permanent Secretary Monday Morning and was directed to clarify why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for embarrassing the Nigerian government.

Atiku to Buhari: Discontinue PHCN privatisation

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has urged the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to reverse the privatisation of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

The Governor of Delta State, Emmanuel Uduaghan, has warned the All Progressives Congress against marginalising the people of the South-South and the South-East as this could lead to crisis.Uduaghan said this during a programme on Channels Television on Sunday.The governor said the reports of the zoning of key offices by the leadership of the APC showed that the party might sideline the people of the South-East and the South-South because the people of the said geopolitical zones did not vote for the APC.

A 45-year-old commercial driver, Saturday Akpomose, narrowly escaped death last Saturday, after he was attacked by seven dogs at Ajah area of Lagos State. The timely intervention of residents and passers-by saved the driver from the dogs.

Akpomose, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, had gone to the area with his wife to visit his in-law, Mr. Christian Peter, when the dogs pounced on him.

Vanguard gathered that the dogs, owned by a Navy Captain, were being taken out to ease themselves at a nearby uncompleted building, when they saw Akpomose and pounced on him.

The matter was reported at Ogombo Police Division, which referred Akpomose to the General Hospital at Akodo, for immediate treatment due to the severity of his injuries.

Despite Defeat, Jonathan Hasn’t Stopped Working For Nigerians – Presidency

Despite losing the March 28 presidential election to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) of the All Progressives Congress, President Goodluck Jonathan is still working for Nigerians, the Presidency said on Sunday.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, made the clarification in a message he posted on his Facebook page on Sunday.

The presidential aide was reacting to reports that the present administration, which winds down on May 29, had abandoned some of its ongoing projects because of the defeat Jonathan suffered in the polls.

Death from Liquor: Ondo Govt Bans Ogogoro as Casualties Rise to 23


Contrary to speculations that over 30 persons have died from the strange disease that afflicted Ayadi and Ode-Irele towns in Irele LocalGovernment Area of Ondo State, the state government at the weekend said the total number of deaths recorded is 23.The Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju, who disclosed this to journalists at a news conference, then announced the bqn of the local gin popularly called ogogoro which has been identified as the cause.
He said the additional five lives lost were not new cases but among those that were hospitalised.
However, Adeyanju, who was supported by other top officials of the ministry and the Ministry of Information, said two of those
that were hospitalised had regained their sight and had returned home while the monitoring still continues.

Lagos Govt to provide Wi-Fi services for residents


The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos state Ministry of Information Communication Technology, ICT, Mrs Nike Animashaun, has revealed plans by the state government to provide Wi-Fi services to residents of the state. Speaking at the state ministerial briefing in Alausa recently, Mrs Animashaun said the first phase of the Wi-Fi connectivity would be installed in parks within the state. She listed the first parks to benefit from the WiFi installment as Oshodi, Alausa and Ajegunle parks.
“The Wi-Fi services will be in some of the parks in the state and when it is deployed, residents of Lagos State would be able to access Wi-Fi in some of the parks,” she said
But who goes to these parks? Mrs Animashaun said that the state government came up with the idea to stimulate and encourage the interest of children in science and technology. She however did not state if the Wi-Fi connection will be free of charge.

South African govt expresses anger over Nigerian govts recall of her ambassadors

South African government has released a statement expressing their displeasure over Nigerian government's decision to recall her envoys following Xenophobic attacks in SA. In a statement released by the South African government's Department of International Relations and Co-operations, SA government described the decision as an unfortunate and regrettable step, adding that only Nigeria has taken such a decision since the xenophobic attacks began.

The man above was fortunate to have made it out alive and he has been rushed to the hospital due to his several burns. Neighbors are however calling on fire fighters to come to their rescue.
