Dominic Breazeale hung around three times longer than Charles Martin had in this same ring at London's 02 Arena 11 weeks earlier, but the end was just as inevitable. It came after just under seven rounds of brutal punishment. Great credit goes to the taller man from California for restoring the image of the brave American boxer, which Martin had tarnished.

Maria Sharapova has been suspended from tennis for two years today for testing positive for meldonium at the Australian Open. She however immediately responded by saying she would appeal the decision to sport’s highest court.

The ruling by an independent three-person panel appointed by the International Tennis Federation said Sharapova did not intend to cheat, but that she bore “sole responsibility” and “very significant fault” for the positive test.

“While the tribunal concluded correctly that I did not intentionally violate the anti-doping rules, I cannot accept an unfairly harsh two-year suspension,” Sharapova said in a statement.

Fayose Hails Buhari Over Negotiation With Niger Delta Militants

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, on Tuesday, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for listening to wise counsel by opting to negotiate with the Niger Delta Militants, especially the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) and suspending military action, saying, "the President must face the reality that democracy is about negotiation and concession."
He however said there must be display of absolute sincerity from the federal government such that the militants will have trust in the process.

According to a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor maintained that "the Niger Delta region as at today is still the golden goose laying the golden eggs on which all other regions are surviving and it will be suicidal for military action to be sustained against the militants."
