A Justice of the Federal High Court,
Gombe, today sentenced one Khalil Ahmed Bappa, 29, who claims to be a GLO agent
to 24 months imprisonment for fraudulently extorting goods and money worth
N267, 000 from a female student of Bayero University, Kano, Yusra Ali Babakusa,
with assurances of making her a Glo Ambassador.
Khalil met Yusra in 2012 and promised he would make her a
Glo ambassador through his contacts at the communications company, but
trouble
started when Khalil gave Yusra a said date to get ready for Lagos. He
told her,
her name had been selected and they will both need to head for Glo’s
Lagos headquarters office. He also told her the company had made
arrangements for her accommodation
and will also be paying for her return flight ticket.
When the day came, Yusra kept calling him, but Khalil refused to pick
his calls and later switched off his phone. That was when she sensed
she was in trouble and she must have been duped. She later reported to
the police who tracked Khalil down and
charged him to court.
He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment without an option
of fine on each of the two counts. The court also ordered the convict to
reimburse his victim before the completion of his jail term.
