An early strike from Ivory Coast captain and Africa’s best player Yahya Toure set the tone for an Ivorian victory over DR Congo in their semi final clash at the ongoing AFCON 2015.
After a weak attempt at goal by a fellow teammate, Toure surged forward to blast home a cracker giving the much-fancied Elephants an early lead.
The lead was however quickly cancelled four minutes later when Cameroonian referee Neant Alioum awarded a penalty to the Congolese for a handball in the Ivorian box. Dieudonne Mbokani expertly converted restoring a semblance of hope for the DR Congo.
After coming close to scoring close to halftime, but being denied by a defensive header, Gervinho netted a second goal for the Ivoirians, changing the whole complexion of the game.
The final death knell was sounded for the DR Congo when Ivoirian defender Winfred Kanon left his mark to bang in the a third for the Elephants.
By this result the Ivoirians have booked their spot in the finals awaiting the other semifinal match between Ghana and hosts Equatorial Guinea.
