Man United flop Djemba-Djemba signs with St Mirren until the end of the season.
Former Manchester United midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba has signed with Scotland's St Mirren.
The
32-year-old Cameroon player completed a medical on Wednesday and will
be with the Paisley-based Buddies until the end of the season.
Djemba-Djemba,
who played 39 times for United after a move from Nantes in 2003, was
signed as a free agent after he left Partizan Belgrade in December 2013.
St Mirren manager Danny Lennon told
the club's official website: 'I am delighted to announce the signing of
Eric Djemba-Djemba till the end of the season.
'He is a top-drawer player who does a power of work in the defensive midfield area.
'At
times I would have liked to play someone alongside Jim Goodwin in that
role to protect the back four and give our creative midfielders more of a
license to hit the opponents box. Eric has performed that role at the
highest level for top European clubs.
'He
wants regular football to ensure he goes to the World Cup with Cameroon
this summer and we are happy to give him that platform.'
On leaving Old Trafford - who he
joined as a 22-year-old for a reported £3.5m alongside Roy Keane and
Wayne Rooney - he spent two years with Aston Villa, which included loan
spell at Burnley.
While
another player signed in the same year, Cristiano Ronaldo, has risen to
win the Ballon D'or, Djemba-Djemba's career trajectory has gone in the
opposite direction to most recently see him ply his trade in Serbia.
Before
the move to the SuperLiga Djemba-Djemba also notched up spells at Qatar
SC, Danish side Odense and Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel.
However, his stint in Belgrade lasted just six months and 14 appearances.
The
24-time capped African Nations Cup winner could debut for St Mirren in
Sunday's William Hill Scottish Cup clash with Dundee United after being
unveiled by the club.
