Former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Imo
State, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, has described the PDP as encouraging a
culture of impunity, adding that the party does not respect democracy. He
said this on Saturday while addressing members of his campaign
organisation, Destiny Organisation, in Owerri.He
said, “PDP is gone; the culture of impunity is gone. PDP does not
respect democracy and that is what we should be against; the era of
imposing candidates on the people is gone.”Araraume described the state
Governor, Rochas Okorocha, as the only true leader of the All
Progressives Congress in the South-East by virtue of being the only
governor of the party in
the zone.Although Araraume did not officially
announce his exit from the PDP, he nonetheless urged his supporters to
throw their weight behind the incoming administration of President-elect
Mohammadu Buhari. He equally urged the supporters to cue into the
programmes of Okorocha for the progress of the state.“We are going to
support this government because it is our government. Collaboration and
partnership make things happen. Same way Buhari sought collaboration
from other
parties and won the presidential election, same way we are
going to collaborate with Okorocha to make this state better,” Araraume
stated.Speaking on behalf of the governor on the occasion, the Chief of
Staff , Government House, Sir Jude Ejiogu, commended Araraume and his
supporters for identifying and collapsing into the APC.He promised that
the new partnership would continue to flourish for the development of
the state.
