Eczema sufferer driven to distraction by her unbearably itchy skin admits she scratches her legs with SCISSORS until she bleeds

Eczema sufferer driven to distraction by her unbearably itchy skin admits she scratches

Karina Sandberg, 29, from Florida, has suffered with eczema since she was a baby. Her flare-ups can cover her entire body and are horrendously itchy and bleed when she scratches. Over the years, topical steroid creams stopped working but she suffered from red skin syndrome, a severe reaction to withdrawal, when she stopped using them. But she persisted and is now trying to control her eczema through diet. She says the chronic condition stops her from being able to do simple things like get her son, Austin, four, dressed on a morning. She said: 'I now feel robbed of motherhood. Because my eczema keeps me awake at night, I'm tired in the day so have to say to Austin, ''Mummy's sick'' and go for a nap and I can't spend time with him.'
