The man who is turning into an ELEPHANT: South American infected with a crippling tropical disease after being bitten by a mosquito is facing a life-long struggle

 

 The man, Raimundo, was bitten by the insect 20 years ago in Brazil and was subsequently infected with lymphatic filariasis - a parasitic infection better known as Elephantiasis. His left leg has now swollen to elephant-like proportions and has almost stopped him from working. Set to feature in River Monsters tonight, Raimundo has recently started undergoing treatment, with doctors dramatically reducing the swelling. To begin with (inset), doctors could not fit their arms around his leg.
