SaharaReporters has been given copies of the January 29, 2016 Supreme Court ruling against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, a top-Chieftain Chukwudi Okasia, and the Independent National Election Commission (INEC). The Supreme Court ruling, as reported earlier by SaharaReporters, was in favor of the appellants who argued that a caretaker committee had been unlawfully set up in Anambra State by the former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife Patience Jonathan.

The fallout from the Supreme Court’s ruling is the sacking of all Senate members representing Anambra State, including Stella Oduah and Andy Uba. SaharaReporters previously reported that Chris Uba’s younger brother Andy Uba will replace him as Senator, while Prince Emeka will replace Stella Oduah.

Supreme Court Justice John Okoro stated in his ruling that “the 1st and 3rd respondents [the PDP and Mr. Okasia, respectively] have tried to raise issues which tend to show that there are conflicts as to facts. I do not see any.”

He added, “those facts which seem to cause disputes are not relevant to the determination of the main issue before the court.”
Mr. Okoro continued on with his judgment stating clearly stating that “the issue is resolved in favor of the appellants.” Adding, “having resolved all five issues in favour of the appellants, I hold that there is merit in this appeal which is hereby allowed.”

Despite the clarity of the judgment issued by the Supreme Court on the morning of the 29th, Mrs. Oduah has argued that the media are misrepresenting the ruling. In a press release circulated Veronica Abang, Mrs. Oduah’s legislative adviser, described news of her sacking as “rumours” and that it is “pertinent to note that this is mere misinterpretation of the Supreme Court rulings and should be disregarded in all entirety.”
