At least five people lost their lives when a suicide bomber attacked an abattoir in Maiduguri on Tuesday, the Borno state police command revealed.
In a report published by Premium Times, the commissioner of police in the state, Aderemi Opadokun disclosed the last words of the suicide bomber before the attack at about 11.30am today.
Opadokun said, “A suicide bomber, who was shouting “Sai Buhari”, and dancing in the abattoir, detonated Improvised Explosive Device strapped on his body when people had gathered around him.
“Five people, including himself, died, while eight others sustained injuries”, he said.
Mr. Opadokun added that policemen were mobilized to the scene to evacuate the corpses. He said that the injured have been taken to the hospital, adding that investigation into the blast was on-going.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has met with the security chiefs in Abuja.
According to reports, the service chiefs met with the president to brief him on the actual security situation in different areas of the country. Among them were the chief of defence staff, Alex Badeh, chief of army staff, Kenneth Minimah, chief of air staff, Adesola Amosu, chief of naval staff, Usman Jibrin and inspector general of police, Solomon Arase.
