House of Representatives members-elect under the platform of the All
Progressives Congress, APC, have elected Hon. Femi Gbajiabiamila as the
candidate they would queue behind to become the next House of Reps
speaker.In a highly transparent primary election conducted on Saturday
in Abuja, and witnessed by the APC Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, and
other NWC members of the party, Hon. Femi Gbajiabiamila polled 154 votes
to defeat his closest rival, Yakubu Dogara, who garnered 3 votes. The number of invalid votes was 4.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, had
told newsmen that the major contenders agreed to sign an undertaking to
accept whatever is the outcome of the primary election.
For the position of deputy speaker, the incoming APC reps members gave
Hon. Tahir Monguno, who was the sole candidate in the primary election,
153 votes, while the invalid votes amounted to 8.
APC controls overwhelming majority of seats in the Green Chamber.
National Secretary of the APC, Malam Ibrahim Bala Gubi, served as the returning officer during the election.
