Ahmed Lawan Emerges APC Candidate For Senate President

Senator Ahmed Lawan and George Akume late Saturday night emerged the candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the office of Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively in Tuesday’s election at the National Assembly.

Mr. Lawan from Yobe State scored 32 votes, while Akume from Yobe State got 31 votes.

The party chairman, John Oyegun pleaded with party members to accept the outcome saying the process was transparent. His opponent, Senator Bukola Saraki and his supporters were however absent at the election.

President Buhari says he and his vice, Osinbajo, will declare their assets publicly after the Code Of Conduct Bureau does its verification on the asset declaration form they submitted on May 28th.

The new President gave this assurance in a statement released today by his media aide, Shehu Garba. In the statement, President Buhari said he hopes that the verification will be conducted within their 100 days in office.

Buhari leaves for G7 Summit, as protests loom

                         

President Muhammadu Buhari will be leaving Nigeria on Sunday morning, to attend the G7 Summit that is scheduled to take place in Bavaria, Germany, from June 7 to 8, 2015.In a statement released in Abuja on Saturday, June 6, Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, said that the invitation was extended to President Buhari, by German Chancellor Angela Merkel even before he was sworn in on May 29th as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The invitation is a clear indication of the international community’s willingness to cooperate with the new government of Nigeria,” he said.

He added that President Buhari would not be participating in the main meetings, since Nigeria is not a member of the G7 group.

Fear in Oko Polytechnic as ‘dead students’ write semester exam

Students and staff of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, are currently living in fear over the recent award of grades to some dead students after a recent semester examination.A rights group, International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, which raised the alarm in a petition entitled: “Complaints Against Wrongful Allocation of Results to Deceased Students’: A call for Investigation and Redress, alleged that one of the deceased students awarded marks in exams was Late Ezeh Uchenna with registration number FPO/SLT/ND/R1/012/038.

 

Giving insight into the strange development, the group in the petition, signed by the Chairman of the group’s Board of Trustees, Mr. Emeka Umeagbalasi, disclosed that “The said Uchenna was given upper credit (3.05) and awarded 67 in Cell Biology, 81 in Organic Chemistry, 60 in Physical Chemistry, 49 in Electricity and Magnetism, 44 in Optics and Waves, 66 in Analytical Chemistry, 70 in General Lab Techniques, 69 in Computer Packages and so on.

About 36 houses were burnt early this morning after a tanker loaded with Diesel lost break at Idimu bus stop in Lagos, rammed into some houses close to the bus stop and exploded. APC reps-elect overwhelmingly vote Gbajabiamila as next Speaker

                

House of Representatives members-elect under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have elected Hon. Femi Gbajiabiamila as the candidate they would queue behind to become the next House of Reps speaker.In a highly transparent primary election conducted on Saturday in Abuja, and witnessed by the APC Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, and other NWC members of the party, Hon. Femi Gbajiabiamila polled 154 votes to defeat his closest rival, Yakubu Dogara, who garnered 3 votes. The number of invalid votes was 4.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, had told newsmen that the major contenders agreed to sign an undertaking to accept whatever is the outcome of the primary election.

With the recent increasing rate of bomb blasts in the country especially in the North-eastern region, the Nigerian military have upped their game training more explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) personnel in order to curtail the excesses of the insurgents .

Pictured above is a military EOD personnel with an (EOD) remote control robot during a recent training/equipment check in the Northern part of Nigeria. The robots are capable of carrying out safe detonation of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and can demobilize explosives-laden vehicles among others.

She was reportedly beaten and tortured to death by the man and as proof, photos of her badly beaten corpse were sent to Nigeria Camera. However, the Russian police are allegedly saying that Tonia had an accident, ruling out the issue of being beaten and tortured to death.

Abuja-based company drags PDP to court over campaign debt

An Abuja based company, Silon Concepts Limited, has dragged the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and two officials of its Presidential Campaign Organisation before an FCT High Court, Abuja for their refusal to pay for the outstanding sum of N70m, being balance for a campaign contract.The plaintiff, in a suit marked CV/2017/15, is demanding for full payment for the ‘voice SMS campaign broadcast’ it sent to voters on behalf of the PDP Presidential candidate, former President, Goodluck Jonathan, before the March 28, 2015 presidential poll. Aside the N70 million balance, the plaintiff is also praying the court to order the defendants to pay it the sum of N15million as the cost of the suit.

 

The plaintiff prayed the court as follows: “An order compelling the defendants to pay the plaintiff the sum of N70m being the outstanding balance for the contract executed by the plaintiff for the defendants.

Barely 24 hours after the Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, issued an ultimatum to residents in possession of arms illegally to surrender them or face the music, a street gang has shot dead five youths in Ajah area of Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

The victims were said to belong to another group on Lagos Island and were returning from a naming ceremony in Ajah on Wednesday when they were ambushed and shot dead by a rival gang in a battle of supremacy.

It was gathered that the deceased, with other youths from Lagos Island, went for a naming ceremony in Ajah area on Wednesday afternoon and were returning home in a hired bus when rival gang members opened fire on the bus and killed five of the occupants.

Men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, have arrested 46 year old businessman Tochukwu Prosper Nzom who inserted 225gm of cocaine into his anus while preparing to board an Air France flight to Paris from the Muritala Mohammed International Airport yesterday June 4th.According to a statement by the spokesperson of NDLEA, Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, two other drug traffickers, identified as Idehen Prince Henry and Ilemena Chinedu Peter were also arrested with 915 grammes and 1.225kg of cocaine as they arrived Nigeria from Brazil on an Emirates flight....More photos after the break:

Many killed in Buhari’s first week in office

The death toll from two blasts in northeast Nigeria rose to 35 on Friday, raising the total number killed in suspected Boko Haram attacks to 82 during President Muhammadu Buhari’s first week in office.

Rescue officials in the Adamawa state’s capital Yola said 31 people had been confirmed dead in the explosion that ripped through a market on Thursday, with another 38 wounded.

The Yola blast followed a suspected suicide bombing in Maiduguri, capital of neighbouring Borno state, that killed at least four people when a truck carrying firewood rammed into a checkpoint outside a military barracks.

The violence on Thursday came as Buhari ended his first foreign trip since taking office.

I thought stuff like this only happen in Africa. Alas i was wrong because britain was stunned when a horrified couple found a dead baby lizard inside a can of tomatoes as they cooked lunch. Muhammad Hussain and his wife Sanam bought the tomatoes from a local supermarket and opened the can to make the gruesome discovery.

Euro Foods, which owns the supermarket, has apologised for the couple's grim find and has launched an investigation. Muhammad was alerted by his seven-month pregnant wife's screams as she opened the tin at their home in Birmingham. He told the BBC : "My wife was making lunch for me and our 15-month-old son. When she opened the can, she saw something and screamed at me to come through. I saw it was a dead baby lizard.

Yesterday the strangest thing happened when the Nigerian Senate passed a record 46 bills into law in just 10 minutes.The bills were introduced by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Ita Enang and all 46 of them had been recently passed by the lower House of Representatives.

The Senate’s decision to pass the bills was predicated on the fact that the life of the current assembly is expected to expire in a few days time and that enough resources had already been expended in processing the bills, hence there was the need to pass them and forward same to the President for his 

assent.

According to Enang, the “bills by this resolution are hereby read and deemed read a third time and passed, to be transmitted to the President for assent in accordance with the Acts (Authentication) Act, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999.

VP. Prof. Osinbajo Locked Out Of President Buhari’s Security Meeting

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo was ‘locked out’ of President Muhammadu Buhari’s meeting with the National Security Adviser on the orders of the President. Trent is reporting that a top Government source who pleaded anonymity disclosed on Wednesday that Vice-President Osinbajo was refused ‘security clearance’ to attend the meeting as a result of security concerns by the Commander-in-Chief allegedly over what he described as a “very sensitive meeting”.

According to the source, it was the thinking of the President that it was too early in the day to bring Vice-President Osinbajo into the President’s first security briefing.

About 78 persons were killed after a gas station they ran to for shelter during heavy downpour went up in flames in Acrra, Ghana yesterday June 3rd. According to Ghana's Fire Service spokesperson, Billy Anagate, the fire started at the Neoplan Bus station at about 5.00pm and then quickly spread to the Goil gas station, causing an explosion which killed all the people taking refuge there. Bodies of the victims are still being evacuated from the scene of the incident.

Flood that resulted from the heavy downpour submerged some buildings and vehicles causing people to take refuge in the gas station. Most buildings that had caught fire from the explosion burned away into the night as 'floodwater around the site hindered recovery attempts.

Ndigbo ‘ll never suffer under Buhari’s administration — Moghalu

Against the backdrop of insinuations that the South-East geopolitical zone would suffer neglect by the new administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for giving him a paltry .013 per cent of the total votes cast in the March 28 presidential election, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has assured that, the situation would be different.

The APC National Auditor, Dr. George Moghalu gave this assurance, while speaking at a dinner organised by Igbo Progressives, IP, Lagos State chapter for leading Igbo personalities in the party.Moghalu, who gave the keynote address at the event, affirmed that Ndigbo were part of the forces that make up the tripod-legs called Nigeria, adding that insinuations that they would be marginalized under the APC-led Federal Government must be dispelled, as no political party would survive without the support of the Igbo.

Photo: Woman faces Jail time after falsely implicating two innocent men on rape charges

22 year old woman Comfort Yinusa (pictured above) is now facing jail time after falsely claiming two men raped her. Yinusa contacted emergency operators saying she'd been attacked outside a bar in London by two men and claimed they forced themselves on her. The men were immediately arrested and they spent six weeks on police bail. About £3,000 was also spent on the forensic investigation to verify the report.

 

Fortunately for the men, it's since been confirmed that the attack never took place. Installed CCTV installed showed them all at a McDonald laughing and joking together while mobile phone records (as should happen in any sane Country) proved one of alleged rapist was looking for his car at the time of the alleged attack.

When caught in her lie, she initially denied lying to police but changed her plea before she was due to go on trial. She will be charged accordingly with the very possibility of her facing jail time.

Azubuike Ihejirika, whom it described as an illustrious Igbo son, is prosecuted as being clamoured by the Amnesty International.Amnesty International had on Wednesday, called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the International Criminal Court in the Hague, Netherlands to investigate some former and serving Nigerian service chiefs for war crimes.

SHOCKER !!! NIMASA Under GEJ Paid Ex Militant Tompolo N1.5Billion Monthly Salary

One of the sour points of the last administration under president Goodluck Jonathan was the loss of over 400,000 barrels of oil daily despite heavy payments being made under pipeline surveillance contracts.One of the biggest beneficiaries of the surveillance contracts has been former Niger Delta militant, Mr. Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo who has been earning a whopping N1.5bn every month.

The shocking revelation was made by the pioneer chairman of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Ahmed Tijani Ramalan.He disclosed that the agency pays the sum of N1.5bn monthly to the ex-militant leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), Tompolo, to protect the nation’s maritime areas.
