Family fun: David Beckham loves Christmas with his family and wants to make it 'special' for his children
They are a
busy working couple, who spend much of the year jetting from one
continent to another to promote their various endeavours but all David
and Victoria Beckham want this Christmas is a day at home with their
children.
The
retired soccer star and his designer wife have been looking forward to
Christmas Day in the UK with their children, Brooklyn, 15, Romeo, 12,
Cruz, nine and three-year-old Harper, and David just wants to relax.
He
said: 'I have always loved Christmas. It's always been an incredibly
special time for me and the family. Now it's all about the children and
making sure they have a special time.'
And while he has lived all over the world, David only ever wants to spend Christmas at home in the UK.
He
explained: 'Even when we were in LA or Madrid, we would always come
back to UK to spend Christmas here. This country comes alive during this
time and this period is about sharing with loved ones.'
David's Christmas Day will be spent in front of the TV, after a huge family dinner.
'I
love all the traditions associated with Christmas - the old movies,
Queen's speech, songs, turkey dinner with all the trimmings, TV
programmes like Only Fools and Horses and much more,' he revealed.
Daddy's little girl: David will be
spoiling Harper, three, this Christmas as the Beckham's enjoy a
traditional Christmas together
And he also revealed his festive iTunes picks since he will have some spare time to enjoy them over the festive season.
David
said, 'Here are my favourite festive films, songs and TV programmes
from the iTunes Store. There are so many more I could have picked from.
Films include Miracle on 34th Street, It's A Wonderful Life and Santa
Claus: The Movie.
'And
even though this is not Christmas themed and I'm biased! If you're
looking for a present to buy a loved one over Christmas you can still
get The Class of 92 on iTunes.'
David
made sure he had stocked up on gifts in a timely fashion, surprising
shoppers in the London Colney branch of Marks and Spencer in
mid-December where he picked up wrapping paper, gift tags and cards.
Meanwhile,
Beckham revealed earlier this year that the Achilles injury which wrote
off a World Cup for the football star helped him to realise the depth
of his bond with wife Victoria.
So in love: David and Victoria married in 1999 and are happier than ever
The
ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder said that as he told
fashion designer Victoria about the disastrous tendon problem he
realised he 'had a wife that really understood me'.
He
talked about the incident in a new unseen interview which is part of
the DVD release of his BBC adventure documentary David Beckham Into the
Unknown, following his travels through the Brazilian rainforest.
His
Achilles injury occurred as he played for AC Milan in the months
leading up to the 2010 World Cup finals, in which he had desperately
hoped to represent England again.
Beckham
said: 'I felt my Achilles had gone - there was a huge hole in it. And
the doctor came over to me and he gave me the phone.
Proud mother: Brooklyn, 15, has almost overshadowed his famous parents this year
'Victoria
was on the phone and she said: "What's just happened?" And I said to
her "It's done". And she said, "What do you mean it's done?"
'And
I remember, I'll never forget, she just burst out unconditionally with
emotion and crying - when someone just kind of can't get their breath.
She literally handed the phone to one of the boys and the boys were
upset.'
He
went on: 'That was one of the points when I knew I had a wife that
really understood me and really understood why I was doing it.
'She knew how much it meant to me, she knew how much playing in a fourth World Cup meant to me. That was a tough time for me.'
Give the gift of iTunes this holiday.
Following in their footsteps: The couple's son Romeo starred in a Burberry campaign this year
