Man City scored twice in the final ten minutes to earn a 2-0 win over Aston Villa in a pulsating encounter at Villa Park.
The Premier League champions started the match five points behind leaders Chelsea and would have feared slipping further behind Jose Mourinho’s Blues had they failed to win at Villa Park.
The
home side matched City for much of the encounter and had a number of
decent chances, but the goal-shy Villans, who have scored just four
times in seven Premier League matches, couldn’t find a way past the
stubborn City defence.
As
expected, City controlled much of the play and threw everything at
Villa, and for a long while it looked like Paul Lambert’s men would
escape with a point, but in the end City’s quality showed as they netted
twice in the final ten minutes.
