Lord Infamous, a rapper and founding member of Three 6 Mafia, was found dead Friday in Memphis at the age of 40, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The musician's half-brother and fellow Three 6 Mafia member DJ Paul told the Reporter: 'He passed away in his sleep from a heart attack' at his mother's home.'
'He said he was tired, he wanted to sleep. He sat down at the kitchen table, put his head in his arms to lay down … to get some sleep,' DJ Paul said of his brother, whose real name was Ricky Dunigan.
The rapper's mother found him dead at the table when she returned home after running errands.
Three 6 Mafia won an Oscar in 2006 for Best Original Song for the song It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp from the movie Hustle & Flow. .
He left the group in 2006, according to Billboard. He joined up with DJ Paul and other former Three 6 members Crunchy Black, Koopsta Knicca and Gangster Boo for the group Da Mafia 6ix, Billboard reported. Several rappers, including Three 6 Mafia member Juicy J, Lil Wyte and Bun B, took to Twitter to express their condolences.
Fellow Three 6 member Gangsta Boo broke the news Saturday morning, tweeting: 'Rest in Peace Lord Infamous please respect the family and dear friends during this tragedy.'
Three 6 Mafia was born in the mid-90s and won Favorite Band/Duo/Group at the American Music Awards two years later.
