Supreme Court Documents Reveal How Oduah And Ubah Got Sacked From The Senate
SaharaReporters has been given copies of the January 29, 2016 Supreme Court ruling against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, a top-Chieftain Chukwudi Okasia, and the Independent National Election Commission (INEC). The Supreme Court ruling, as reported earlier by SaharaReporters, was in favor of the appellants who argued that a caretaker committee had been unlawfully set up in Anambra State by the former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife Patience Jonathan.
The fallout from the Supreme Court’s ruling is the sacking of all Senate members representing Anambra State, including Stella Oduah and Andy Uba. SaharaReporters previously reported that Chris Uba’s younger brother Andy Uba will replace him as Senator, while Prince Emeka will replace Stella Oduah.

Veteran Broadcaster, Sir Terry Wogan Dies At 77 After A Short Battle With Cancer
Sir Terry Wogan has died aged 77. The veteran broadcaster
passed away after a battle with cancer, it has been announced. His family
issued a statement, announcing the sad news. It read: "Sir Terry Wogan
died today after a short but brave battle with cancer.
"He passed away surrounded by his family. While we
understand he will be missed by many, the family ask that their privacy is
respected at this time."

2.5m Chickens Now Affected By Bird Flu In Nigeria, As Disease Spreads To 18 States
Avian Influenza, popularly referred to as bird flu which has
returned back to Nigeria has now affected 2.5 million chickens and has spread
to 18 states in Nigeria. According to the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science,
this has resulted in the loss of several billions of Naira.

Zika virus: Don't Travel To Latin America - FG Warns
The Federal Government on Friday warned Nigerians against
travelling to Latin America nations following the outbreak of Zika virus in the
region.
Pregnant women were particularly asked to steer clear of the
region and the restriction subsists until further notice.
The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, while issuing
the travel advice called for closer monitoring and screening of passengers at
various ports of entry in the country, especially for those who had visited
Latin America recently.

Arms Deal: EFCC Arrests Own Operative For Extortion
An operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, Abdulrahman Mohammed Biu, a deputy detective superintendent, has
been arrested for offences bordering on extortion, influence peddling and
impersonation, the commission said in a statement Friday.
The officer was arrested on Monday following intelligence
report alleging that he extorted $150,000 from some military officers on the
pretext that he would help give them a soft landing in the ongoing
investigation into the arms deal scandal.

I Won’t Speak On Arms Scandal Now – Jonathan
Former president Goodluck Jonathan has said he won’t be
speaking on the current $2.1bn arms scam now because the matter is in court. Speaking
at Geneva Press Club on Security, and Development in Africa, the former
President said he would not like to comment on the arms probe matter now
because his comment could affect witnesses and the judicial proceeding that had
been initiated by the current administration.
He said: “I would not like to comment now because the matter
is in court. I cannot comment. Definitely, I will speak. My Comment now may
affect witnesses and the judicial process.
“When I was President, I tried to build institutions like
the Judiciary and separation of power and the electoral bodies. I should not be

Zika: Mosquito-Borne Virus Now In Germany
Cases of the mosquito-transmitted Zika virus have been
reported in Germany following confirmation a Danish tourist has also tested
positive for the illness.
According to n-tv, “multiple German travel returnees” have
been diagnosed with the virus, however the World Health Organisation says there
have been two German cases of the virus in tourists returning to the country.
A WHO statement released on 21 January says: “Between 4 and
12 January 2016, the National IHR Focal Point for Germany notified PAHO/WHO of
two cases of ZIKA virus infection in German nationals who had returned from
Haiti to Germany in late December."

At least, 100 shops and three cars have been burnt in an
early morning fire which engulfed Jakande Market at Ikosi, Ketu in Lagos.
Fire servicemen, officials of the Lagos State Fire Service
and others battled the fire after they were notified of the inferno. The fire
was said to have begun around 4:00am, with goods worth millions of naira
destroyed in the inferno.
Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe said three
trucks with 10,000 litres of water each were mobilised to the scene immediately
to quell it.
Many traders were left to recount their huge losses as the

Party, Chief Olisa Metuh was this evening, Thursday, 28th of
January, 2016 released form Kuje Prison after meeting his bail conditions. Today
makes it his 13th day in prison.
It will be recalled that Metuh was remanded with respect to
the charges of fraudulent receipt of N400m from the Office of the National
Security Adviser in 2014 and money laundering involving separate $2m cash
transaction. The charges were preferred against him and his company, Destra

An appeal court sitting in Lagos, south west Nigeria has
adjourned for judgement the appeal filed by star actress and former beauty
queen, Ibinabo Fiberesima challenging the judgement of a Lagos High Court which
sentenced her to five years imprisonment for causing the death of a Lagos
medical doctor, Giwa Suraj.
The embattled actress was sentenced to five years
imprisonment by Justice Deborah Oluwayemi for reckless driving which caused the
death of one Dr. Giwa Suraj in an auto accident along Lekki-Epe expressway,
Lagos State. The deceased was a staff of one of Lagos state owned hospitals.

Aregbesola Appoints Billionaire Oil Baron, Folorunso Alakija, Chancellor Of Osun Varsity
Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has appointed the
third richest woman of African descent in the world, Folorunso Alakija, as
Chancellor of the Osun State University, Osogbo.
The governor, in a statement by his spokesperson, Semiu
Okanlawon, said pursuant to the provisions of clause 5(8) of the first
schedule to the Osun State University (Establishment) Law, 2006, Mr. Aregbesola
is privileged to appointment Mrs. Alakija as the Chancellor of the University.
The appointment, which according to the statement, takes immediate effect will be for a period of five years.

The Saudi man was stopped at customs on his way back from

which were attached with adhesive tapes to the man's upper and lower legs and

The alleged killer of American tourist Jessica Colker was
remanded in custody today after being charged with her murder. David Benjamin
made a brief appearance at Grenville Magistrate's Court where he was charged
with non-capital murder.
The 26-year-old did not speak during the hearing. He was then
remanded in custody to St George's prison. Benjamin's father was in court but
refused to comment as he left.
He is suspected of killing Colker who died from extensive
skull fracture and asphyxia, as she walked along a deserted beach with her
husband on the first day of her holiday.

Three Confirmed With Lassa Fever In Akwa Ibom, One Already Dead
The Akwa Ibom State government have confirmed three
indigenes with Lassa fever in the state and sadly one of them already passed on
before her test result came out. The woman, a 53-year old crayfish seller was
the third person who was confirmed to have the deadly virus in the state.
“We had three suspected cases including one confirmed case.
Unfortunately the confirmed case, a 53-year-old woman who sells crayfish, has
died. Her test result came out after she had died. The third case is someone
that has been under treatment for HIV. This shows how serious this problem has

7,243 Rats Killed At 8 Major Markets In Lagos Yesterday
The battle to curtail the outbreak of Lassa Fever has
continued in Lagos and at least 7,243 rats were killed yesterday at eight major
markets in the state under the de-rat market programme.
The markets were the exercise was carried out are Onigbongbo,
Oshodi, Oke-Odo, Ikotun, Idanwo, Ojuwoye, Mile 12 and Alaba-Rago markets.
The State government has also directed its environmental officers to embark on a massive sensitisation campaign across the state on the need to de-rat the state as a whole.
Two Men Pretending To Be Mad Caught With Rotting Human Head, Blackberry Phone, ATMs In Osun
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Osun Command, has
arrested two suspects, who pretended to be mad, for being in possession of a
decomposing human head.
The suspects, Alaba Folawiyo and Mutiu Lawal, according to Mr. Wale
Folarin, the state’s NSCDC Public Relations Officer, were hiding in an
uncompleted building near Apomu Junction in Ikire, headquarters of Irewole LGA,
when they were arrested.
A Blackberry phone hidden inside a drug pack, knife, perfume cans,
clothes, school bags, shoes, wristwatches, ATM cards, electrical materials,
roofing sheets, cooking utensils, suspected to be belongings of the victims of
the suspects, were found in the building.

Three bodies were yesterday evacuated
from a foundation of a building believed to be owned by a Pastor and the
construction meant for a church in Enugu. According to eyewitnesses, one

construction workers at the site hinted police men when he noticed three

were hurriedly buried and immediately covered with concrete on the site,

and asked that the corpses be removed. Residents who lived around
testified that the owner of the building is a ritualist who uses the

Thousands Of Birds Infected With Bird Flu Destroyed In Adamawa
Disposal Of Birds In Adamawa State
The Adamawa State government has destroyed 24,000 birds of various species believed to be infected with the avian flu. Speaking to the media a local farmer, Muhammed Hassan, said over 24,000 fouls, 250 peacocks, 456 guinea fowls and 54 Turkeys affected had been destroyed.
The commissioner for Livestock Production, Isa Salihu, said the Federal and State governments were taking precautionary measures to halt the spread of the disease.
“We thank God for quick intervention to contain the disease from spreading to other poultry farms in the area.
“Already the state government has massively embarked on sensitization campaign for people to avoid having contact with dead birds or eating infected birds,” Mr. Salihu said.
Biafra: Ex-Militants Give FG 31-Day Ultimatum To Release Kanu Or They Would Begin Abduction Of Expatriates

ex-militant leaders in support of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)
struggle have given Federal Government 31-day deadline to free the leader of
the group and Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, or face the consequences.
Also, the
former warlords warned security agencies against tampering with the life of the
IPOB leader, who is detained at Kuje Prison. Spokesperson of the concerned
ex-militants, simply identified as General Ben, warned that at the expiration
of the ultimatum, they would resume massive abduction of expatriates as a first
step.
The spokesperson
declared that Federal Government should not underrate the activities of the
militants in the Niger Delta, no matter the number of soldiers deployed against
them.

stronger, says he is returning back to his former party, APC. Osoba however didn’t
state while he was returning, but noted that he has always been a part of APC,
and the misunderstanding that made him leave last year is not personal and so
would be resolved soon as talks are currently ongoing. He says he believes his
coming back to APC is for the good cause of Yoruba and the nation at large and
he can’t wait to see that happen.
Another Lassa Patient Dies In Delta State
Another patient suffering from
the dreaded Lassa fever disease has died at the emergency ward of the Federal
Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, Delta State capital. Last week, a female patient had
brought in the disease into Asaba from neighbouring Anambra State. She was the
first victim to die in Delta State following the recent outbreak of the disease
across the country.
Commissioner for Information, Mr.
Patrick Ukah had in the wake of the first incident said other samples taking to
the laboratory at Irrua Specialist Hospital in Edo State tested negative to
Lassa fever.
Ukah said 22 persons who were suspected to have had contact with the deceased woman from Anambra State, were placed under close surveillance. But it could not be ascertained if the latest death was one of the 22 persons earlier quarantined.

Akwa Ibom State Gov. Grants Amnesty To 64-Year Old Man Who Has Served 25 Years In Prison
Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, on Saturday, granted amnesty
to Okon Akpan, a 64-year-old prison inmate, who had served in Ikot Ekpene
prison for 25 years.
The governor granted freedom to the inmate under his power of
prerogative of mercy during his visit to Ikot Ekpene medium security prisons. Emmanuel, who charged Akpan to go and commit no more crime, stressed the
need for proper upbringing of children through sound moral guidance to make
good citizens.
He also stressed the need for speedy dispensation of justice to reduce congestion in the prisons with the high number of inmates awaiting trial. He donated 100 bags of rice and three cows for the feeding of the inmates and commended the prison authorities for taking good care of inmates under their custody.

US To Donate 24 Mine-Resistant Vehicles Worth $11m To Nigerian Army
In a bid to fulfill its promise of helping Nigeria fight the
Boko Haram insurgency, the United States will today, donate 24 mine-resistant
and armor-protected vehicles to the Nigerian Army, Vanguard reports.
The vehicles, which are valued at $11m, would be handed over
to the military authorities at the Nigerian Army 9th Brigade Parade Ground,
Ikeja Army Cantonment in Lagos.
A statement yesterday, by the Public Affairs Section of the
United States Consulate General Lagos, said: “The US is pleased to donate 24
Mine-Resistant, Armor-Protected (MRAP) vehicles valued at $11m to Nigeria’s
military authorities.
“The equipment donation represents part of the continuing US commitment to Nigeria and its neighbours to counter Boko Haram’s senseless acts of terror and promote regional security.”

The Lagos State Police Command arrested 28-year-old Okwuchukwu
Ibekwe, who lived in Iyana Iba area of Lagos, for allegedly selling his
five-month-old son to a child trafficker in Anambra State for N400,000.
He said he sold his son because he was having difficulties in his trade
and allegedly decided with his wife to sell him.
According to PUNCH Metro the Ibekwes sold their son to one Chinelo, who stayed in Ihiala, Anambra State and is still on the run, on December 17, 2015.
It was learnt that Chinelo gave the infant's Dad N250,000 while the mother of the baby's mum was supposed to get N150,000.

On Tuesday, the elders and traditional rulers of Peremabiri Community in the Southern Ijaw Area of Bayelsa State dismissed as “false” a reported gun battle between ex-militants loyal to both the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the supplementary election in the State.
According to the elders of the Peremabiri Community, there were confrontations among some loyalists of the APC and the PDP following the arrival into the community of the foremost ex-militant leader, Eris Paul (AKA General Ogunboss). However, the community leaders claimed that the issue was quickly settled and peace has returned to Peremabiri Community.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Simeon Karibo, dismissed the claims of a heavy gun battle between ex-militants as false arguing that these claims were a calculated attempt to disenfranchise the people of the area.

Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees
(BOT) chairman, Tony Anenih has explained how he disbursed the N260
million paid into his bank account from the Office of the National Security Adviser NSAThe Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) believes the cash came from the allegedly misappropriated $2.1 billion arms funds.
It would be recalled that one of the charges against former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Mohammed Sambo Dasuki and a former Director of Finance and Administration this office, Shaibu Salisu, was the transfer of N260million to Anenih.
