                                                                                               Rotimi Amaechi

According to the Nation Newspaper, as well as several social media outlets, Rotimi Amaechi has pledged that as Minister of Transportation he will complete all ongoing rail projects and extend rail lines across Nigeria.

Minister Amaechi made this statement shortly after his inauguration by President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Wednesday.

It will be recalled that earlier today SR provided a breakdown of the portfolio for each ministerial appointee, Mr. Amaechi’s portfolio was among those listed.

Mr. Amaechi announced that he will begin his work on November 17th after the new Permanent Secretary, Mr. Sabiu Zakari, assumes his position in the ministry.

The newly appointed minister hopes to meet with both Mr. Zakari and the ministry’s directors to discuss budgetary implementation vis a vis his plans for completing ongoing rail projects as well as the expansion of rail lines.

Mr. Amaechi did not limit himself to his own ministry, he also called for the cooperation of all parastatals and agencies in the Ministry of Aviation.
The former Rivers State Governor touched upon the importance of transparency, combating corruption, and the fulfillment of President Buhari’s change agenda. He warned all of his future employees that they must not seek him out for cash handouts.

It will be recalled that last month, SaharaReporters exclusively obtained the official report of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions that called for Mr. Amaechi’s ministerial screening to be halted until his false declaration of assets case was heard in the Supreme Court.

However, Senate President Bukola Saraki dismissed the report and allowed the screening to take place.  Mr. Amaechi was subsequently screened and approved by the Senate on October 29th.
Mr. Zaraki expressed confidence in Minister Amaechi’s ability to deliver on the promises of President Buhari’s change agenda. The Permanent Secretary also promised to work closely with Mr. Amaechi to ensure that he was able to discharge his duties effectively.
