A group of protesters led by Seun Kuti, the scion of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo -Kuti defied the Nigerian police to stage a May Day protest in Lagos, Nigeria.
Policemen deployed to stop the march fired bullets to scare away the protesters who had tagged the event #StolenDreamsProtest but the organizers stood their ground saying they are entitled to march peacefully anywhere in Nigeria without police permission.

As the  the resistance grew, members of the Joint Action Front (JAF) and students in Lagos State joined the protesters. They eventually succeeded in getting the police to agree to their protest march and also to provide protection to the marchers.
The protesters are demanding that the policemen and government deploy their strength into finding and returning the missing 200+ girls abducted 16 days ago from a boarding school in Chibo, Borno State.
Carrying a large banner announcing the reason for their protest, they sang "Go to Sambisa and Bring Back Our Girls" to the policemen until they reached their destination at the Onikan Stadium, where the annual workers' May Day is holding.
