Ondo Police Claim Arrest Of 14 Suspects


           
   
The Ondo State police have claimed the arrest of fourteen suspected armed robbers and kidnappers. A police statement alleged that the suspects had been terrorizing residents of the state capital, Akure, as well as surrounding towns. The suspects, who were reportedly arrested after a tip-off from members of the public, were paraded at the police command’s headquarters on Igbatoro Road in Akure. In recent months, residents of the state had seen a spike in armed robbery attacks. The Ondo State Police Commissioner, Isaac Eke, revealed that the arrested suspects were part of a larger gang that had carried out incessant attacks all over the state.

Mr. Eke said his command had received numerous complaints and distress calls from victims of armed robbery attacks.                                                                                                                                                
A statement released by the commissioner disclosed that two men on a motorcycle robbed a couple, Rotimi and Iyaniwura Adedayo, at gun point and stole one Nokia handset, one wristwatch, a bunch of keys and some money. Mr. Adedayo was shot on his left leg as he struggled with the robbers.
       
Detectives from the command was said to have swung into action and traveled down to Delta state where two of the suspects, a 25 year old, Uche Eze and 29 year old Nnamdi Emeka were arrested.
Another (8) Eight set of Armed robbery suspects whom are 39 year old-Bunmi Adewale; 18 year old-Sherif Olamoyegun; 19 year old-Sunday Tosin; 20 year-old Kabiru Lateef known as 'Oba Aro'; 20 year old-Elusakin Samuel; 20 year old-Niyi Adesiyan; 20 year old-Olamoyegun Jelili; and 24 year old-Wasiu Olamoyegun living in a Single room apartment at Odo Alafia Street, Ondo town were also arrested. Exhibit recovered from them includes One Cut-to-size Single barrel gun, One expended cartridge, One UTC Axe, One cutlass, One Hammer, One Sword, One knife, Army Belt and Cap, Complete pairs of Vigilante Group of Nigeria uniforms (VGN). Another suspected robber, Ojo Ayo who robbed people along Iju-Itaogbolu road was also arrested and paraded alongside others.                                                                                        
Three different types of handsets, Sixteen Live Cartridges, One locally made pistols, Some charms, the Sum of Thirteen thousand Seven hundred Naira, One knife, Two bags and One face mask were recovered from him while the case is still under investigation. On the kidnap case, One Onyeka Micheal who was found with two children, Yusuf Eniola (3 half years) and Aishat Eniola (2 years) of age around Eco bank in Ondo road, Ore was also paraded. A police source investigating the matter told SaharaReporters that the suspect could not explained satisfactory how he came about the children and he would have being lynched by the mob if not for the help of security personnel.
