Norway Regrets Selling Warships To Ex-Niger Delta Militant, Tompolo

Norwegian Defence Chief, Haakon Bruun-Hansen, an admiral, has apologised to the country’s lawmakers for the sale of a fleet of a decommissioned naval battleships and combats boats to a former Niger Delta militant, Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo.
Mr. Ekpemupolo was the leader of one of the several militias in the Niger Delta region that led a devastating campaign of violence against the Nigerian state for several years until he was awarded a multi-billion pipeline protection contract by the out-going Goodluck Jonathan administration as part of an amnesty deal with ex-combatants.

Man loses wife, three children, two others to fire


Six people died when a storey building in which they were living caught fire in Jos, Plateau State in the early hours of Saturday.The fire was said to have started around 2 am immediately after electricity was restored from the public electric supply.The victims are 26-year old Habiba Ahmed, her three children, Dalhatu, aged 6, Maryam 4 and one-year-old Fawaz. Others are Habiba’s sister, Rukayat 12 and maid, named Maryam aged 13.There was suspicion that the victims died of suffocation as they could not escape from the raging inferno.

Man trekking from Adamawa to Abuja to celebrate Buhari meets Emir of Bauchi (PHOTOS)

43 year old Mallam Abubakar Umar (pictured left) who started trekking from Yola, Adamawa state on April 26 to Abuja where he hopes to meet with the president-elect, Gen Buhari, had a brief stop over at the palace of the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Suleimanu Adamu, yesterday May 2nd. Umar was received by the Emir and some APC members in the state.According to Umar, he has in his possession 300 letters from people from the north appealing to the president-elect to do everything within his power to end the activities of Boko Haram. Hundreds of STRANGERS turn out for funeral of the mystery child who was found dead on railway track

Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral of an unidentified baby boy whose body was found wrapped in a blanket on an Edinburgh railway track almost two years ago. Local residents and community leaders gathered at Seafield Crematorium, Edinburgh, this morning following an appeal by police, who feared that the no one would attend the service after their investigation had failed to identify the baby's family. The congregation of strangers bowed their heads in respect as the tiny white coffin was carried through the cemetery, accompanied by the moving sound of a single piper playing Amazing Grace. Dozens wept as the minister delivered a moving sermon about the infant, simply named in his death notice as 'Little Baby Boy', before laying balloons, flowers and soft animals on the site where he was finally laid to rest. 

Ijaw Youths, OPC Clash In Arepo Over Pipeline, Pregnant Woman, Many Killed

Members of the Oodua People’s Congress and some suspected pipeline vandals have clashed in Arepo, in the Obafemi Owode area of Ogun State.
It was gathered that the Wednesday clash caused pandemonium, which led to the killing of a pregnant woman, Mrs. Damilola Fajana, and another pedestrian. It was learnt that a suspected vandal had earlier been killed on Tuesday by some OPC members.

Despite Death Sentence, 19 Nigerians Attempt Shipping Drugs To Asia – NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has said it saved 20 people from the death penalty in Asia by preventing them from smuggling drugs out of Nigeria.
In a statement Thursday, the agency said since January 2014, 19 Nigerians and a Ghanaian have been arrested in Nigerian airports attempting to smuggle 106,914 kilogrammes of narcotics.
“Sixteen of the suspects were apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos while four others including a Ghanaian were caught at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu,” said Ahmadu Giade, NDLEA’s Chairman.

An argument between a police corporal and his senior colleague, an inspector, over who actually owns a pretty female recharge card seller, ended in tragedy when the corporal corked his riffle, killed the card seller and the inspector, before killing himself.
The incident occurred yesterday evening in the Karu Town, near the CBN Junction, when the corporal, who claimed he was interested in the recharge card seller, simply known as Chidinma, saw the inspector and the recharge seller sitting together over some bottles of soft drinks.

Fuel scarcity: Marketers insist strike continues, denies receiving any money from govt



Members of the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association DAPPMA say the strike action they are currently embarking on will continue despite claims by the Federal Government that N156bn was released yesterday to offset some debts owed them and end the persisting fuel scarcity.
In an interview with Premium Times, the Executive Secretary of DAPPMA, Odufemi Adewole said that non of their members in the Major Oil Marketers Association (MOMAN), have received the monies supposedly released yesterday and that until the money hits the accounts of all its members, they will not call off the strike.

Nigeria - There is bitter rivalry among All Progressives Congress, APC members who are of Igbo originsover who becomes the next secretary to the government of the federation, SGF, as the fight for the post has split them into three bitterly divided camps, Nigerian Newswatch says.

Under Nigeria’s complex zoning arrangement, the SGF has been zoned to the Igbo-speaking southeast geo-political zone and the race has begun to find a suitable candidate to fill the spot.

The caucus reportedly met again at the Imo State governor’s lodge in Abuja at the instance of Governor Rochas Okorocha but the meeting ended in a stalemate.
