Okorocha To Drag Road Contractors In Imo Before EFCC

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, yesterday said his government would invite the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to probe contractors who handled rural roads in the State and did not complete them. Okorocha stated this at the Imo International Convention Centre, IICC, in Owerri, during a meeting with the members of the State Development Council, SDC, from the 27 Local Government Areas of the State.

“We will invite the EFCC to investigate road contractors who never completed the rural roads in Imo given to them.

“ The governor said he would not be happy if after his administration, somebody would invite him to start talking about rural roads.

He also threatened that the names of those contractors would be published in the newspapers. In the same meeting, the governor announced that his administration has concluded plans to release N14 billion for rural road construction.

He said,  “We have concluded that N14 billion will be released for construction of rural roads in Imo State,” adding that “strategic roads in each of the 27 Local Government Areas in the State will be considered.”

According to Okorocha: “The officials of the Social Development Council, SDC and Community Government Council, CGC,  will collaborate with the members of their community to decide which road to  be constructed and how to apply the money to archive the purpose for which the money was given to them. “Also, through the SDC, we have planned to renovate our schools in the rural areas, recruit 3,000 graduates, pay pensioners as well as boost agricultural businesses.”
