Gunmen Abduct Bayelsa State Speaker’s 90-Year Old Mother-In-Law
The mother-in-law of Bayelsa State speaker, Madam Ogboro
Dark was yesterday kidnapped by unknown gunmen who stormed her community in the
state around 2.00am.The gunmen shot sporadically as they made their way into
her home and abducted her.
According to few villagers who witnessed the scene, the
armed men entered the community through the waterside in three boats and were
fast to leave as soon as they bundled the woman.
The State commissioner has confirmed the incident and says police will do everything to bring back the aged woman.
Boko Haram Has Exposed Nigeria
While Aso Rock makes noise about the determination of the government to bring back the abducted Chibok girls and also to finally thumb Boko Haram, the group continues to strike audaciously as it pleases – in Borno (four times, with the recent killing of forty soldiers and policemen), Kano and Plateau (twice).
It seems they want prove that this government has no clue of what it is talking about. Boko Haram wants to tell Nigerians that we live at their mercy. And that our so-called leaders are only making speeches – as usual.
Nigeria is now a laughing stock, especially among Africans, who had seen our country as a giant in the continent and had looked up to us for leadership. A Ghanaian, living in Berlin, had recently joked that they (Ghanians) never knew they were fearing Nigeria for nothing. „So we could have defeated Nigeria in war?“he had jested, due to the inability of the Nigeria State to deal with a little insurgency.
Though a war against terror is a different ballgame, the view of the Ghanian might not necessarily be correct, nevertheless it is representative of how others see us at the moment.

World Cup Warm Up - Sturridge strikes as England stroll to win over Peru
Daniel Sturridge scored a superb goal as England eased to a 3-0 win over Peru at Wembley.
England had Joe Hart to thank for a couple of crucial early saves, most notably from the lively Jean Deza, whose shot looped off Phil Jagielka and the Manchester City goalkeeper did well to make the save.
But England took the lead
through Sturridge's fine individual strike, cutting in from the right
and arrowing an unstoppable drive into the top corner, after Peru were
caught asleep for Glen Johnson's quick throw.
Gary Cahill made it 2-0 with a header from Leighton Baines's corner, which the Chelsea defender steered inside the near post.

International friendlies - Late equaliser gives Nigeria draw against Scotland
The build-up to the game was overshadowed by rumours of investigations into match-fixing, but no concrete details had come to light. Nigeria were in London before they left the country to begin their preparations for the World Cup, and Scotland are rebuilding for their European Championship campaign.
Scotland took the lead in the match when a quick corner came to James Morrison, who drove a low shot into the box for Charlie Mulgrew to cleverly flick over the goalkeeper.
There were few chances for either side in an uneventful half, but Nigeria equalised just before half-time when Michael Uchebo picked up the ball outside the box, drove towards goal and had his shot deflected away from the Allan McGregor and into the net.

Pregnant Pakistani woman stoned to death by her family members
Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- A pregnant woman is
beaten to death by her relatives outside a court building. Her crime? To
elope with the man she loved rather than marry the groom chosen by her
family.
The terrible fate of Farzana Parveen, 25, is one shared by all too many women in Pakistan and elsewhere.
She was killed in the name of "honor," on the grounds her actions had brought shame on her family.
"I do not even wish to
use the phrase 'honour killing': there is not the faintest vestige of
honour in killing a woman in this way," UN High Commissioner for Human
Rights Navi Pillay said in a statement condemning the killing.
