We first came across babies being given strange sports related names here at World of Sport during the 2010 World Cup.
During the tournament in South Africa, one baby girl was named 'FIFA' (all in capitals) after the sport's governing body, while another was called 'Ke Nako', a World Cup slogan that meant 'it is time'.
Another couple in Bloemfontein had twin boys during the opening match between South Africa and Mexico and decided to name their kids after the two teams playing.
Then, in 2011, there was the baby named after fourteen members of the Burnley football team; while earlier this month, the Newcastle Chronicle caught up with a Newcastle fan who named her son 'Cole' back in 1995 only to see him sold to Manchester United a couple of months later.
Now it seems like the phenomenon has travelled across to the States. But calling a baby '12th'? That might be the strangest example we have come across yet – even if it is only a middle name.
Welcome to the world, Cydnee Leigh 12th Mann. Yes, that's her name. Her legally binding name. Inspired by the Super Bowl-bound Seattle Seahawks.
Seattle are famed for having perhaps the nosiest supporters in the NFL, and they are collectively given the nickname 'The 12th Man'.
Now it appears that one couple have taken advantage of their surname to ensure their newborn daughter instantly became the youngest member of the '12th Man' army.
The Seattle Seahawks, who have never won the Super Bowl, play the Denver Broncos in Sunday night's big game. posted by Emanto Ngaloru Jan 29, 2014.
