Rahama Sadau Suspended From Kanywood: The 'Immoral' Video That Caused It

 

 The Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria yesterday announced they have expelled top Kannywood actress, Rahama Sadau, from the Hausa film industry because she featured in a romantic musical video by Jos born singer, ClassiQ and hugged, cuddled the music artist.

Sokoto Declares Tuesday Holiday For Islamic New Year

The Sokoto State Government has declared tomorrow as public holiday to commemorate the start of the Islamic New Year (Muharram 3, 1438 AH).

A statement yesterday by Governor Aminu Tambuwal’s spokesman Malam Imam Imam congratulated Muslims for witnessing the Hijra New Year.

It quoted Tambuwal as appealing to the people of the state to use the occasion of the public holiday to intensify prayers for the nation.

It urged all citizens to care, love and protect one another, adding that, Islamic virtues of unity, peace and honesty, should be promoted by all persons.

It was something else in Enugu State today as Rangers FC were crowned Nigeria league champions on Sunday, October 2 after defeating El-Kanemi Warriors 4-0 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium, Enugu state. This feat by the Flying Antelopes have seen them emerge league champions for the seventh time, hence, equalling a record set by former champions Enyimba.

However, the electrifying atmosphere at Nnamdi Azikiwe was greeted with the presence of top celebrities in various fields as they trooped in to show their support for the Flying Antelopes. Nothing short of joy and jubilation trailed the blast of the final whistle.

Ex-Gov Sylva Reclaims 48 Houses From EFCC

A former Governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, has retrieved 48 of his properties seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, The Punch has learnt.

A Punch correspondent, who visited some of the properties, located mostly in highbrow areas of Abuja such as Wuse II and Maitama, observed that some of the inscription ‘EFCC, Keep Off’, on the gates or fences of the properties, had been wiped off the buildings while some of the buildings had been rented out.

The correspondent, who posed as a prospective tenant, was informed that the rent for the properties ranged between N2.5m and N6m per annum.

The correspondent was informed that the 16 units of service apartments at Plot 1181 Thaba Tseka Crescent, off IBB Way in the Wuse II area of the Federal Capital Territory, cost N6m per annum including a N1.5m service charge. The building provides seven hours of power supply from a generator.

Saudi Arabia Abandons Islamic Calendar For Govt Pay

Saudi government workers will be paid according to the Gregorian calendar instead of the Islamic Hijri calendar, making the working month longer as part of cost-cutting measures, newspapers reported on Monday.

The change, approved by cabinet last week, brings civil service pay in line with the government's January-December fiscal year.

The reports said the latest austerity measure took effect on October 1. Saudi Arabia, the world's biggest oil exporter, is cutting government spending and re-orienting its economy after a collapse over the past two years of the global oil price which provided most of its revenue.

The Hijri calendar consists of 12 months of 29 or 30 days depending on the sighting of the moon, meaning the Islamic year is several days shorter than the Gregorian calendar, which is widely used in the world.

I Warned About Recession When Jonathan Govt Spent ‘Recklessly’ – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says he foresaw and warned about Nigeria’s current recession two years ago, but said he was ignored.

Mr. Obasanjo said he was concerned about recession when he saw how “recklessly” the Goodluck Jonathan administration spent the country’s resources.

The former president spoke on Saturday in an Independence Day message at a lecture organised by the Youth Fellowship of Owu Baptist Church, Abeokuta.

“Whoever that has lived to witness the celebration of today should thank God,” he said. “Things are not what they should be, but we should pray that next year will be better than this year. We thank God for those who are alive, we prayed for the souls of those who have laboured for these country and who have passed on to rest in perfect peace.”

Serial Attacker Of Church Buildings In Rome Apprehended

A  man who targeted four Catholic Church buildings in central Rome over the last 24 hours has been apprehended, Italian police said Saturday.

The suspect was described as a 39-year-old legal resident from Ghana with several previous run-ins with the law. Authorities are evaluating what charges to press, a statement said.

Police said he broke into four churches in central Rome - twice on Friday evening and twice on Saturday morning - and damaged at least five religious statues.

A parish priest who witnessed one of the attacks, Father Pedro Savelli of Santa Prassede church, told the La Repubblica newspaper: "He was out of his mind, but luckily we made him run away before he also destroyed the cross."

"It was all over in a few seconds, and luckily not many people were in the church, no more than 15. But they were all terrified. That man was out of control, he said we were using sacred images in the wrong way and then hurled himself at the statues," Savelli added.

Mr Ayodele Fayose, the Ekiti State Governor has commended the late Sani Abacha for his vision that led to the creation of the State 20 years ago. Ekiti State was created on October 1, 1996 alongside Bayelsa, Gombe, Nasarawa, Ebonyi and Zamfara States.
